LIST
Best alarm apps for heavy sleepers
Loudness is not the trait that matters. Heavy sleepers reach over, dismiss the alarm, and remember none of it. Any app you can turn off without waking is the wrong app, however loud it gets.
Alarmy
The reference point. Missions gate the off switch: math, memory games, shaking, squats, photo of a registered place, and QR code. Photo and QR are the strongest, because they need you standing somewhere else in the house. Also includes sleep tracking and sleep sounds. Freemium with a 7-day trial.
Try this first if dismissal is your actual problem.
WakeUpBroo
No snooze button and no dismiss button. The stop code rotates on their website every five minutes, so you open it on a laptop and type it in. Runs on AlarmKit, so it rings through Silent and Focus. iPhone only, free with an optional Pro subscription. Harsher than Alarmy by design.
AlarmK
Missions gated behind an AlarmKit alarm, covering QR and barcode, math, shaking and photo. The listing states it rings through Silent and Focus with the same permission model as Apple’s Clock. Worth a look if you want Alarmy’s approach on the modern iOS alarm path.
Alarmesque
No mission. It changes what plays, writing a new scene every morning with your name in it, in a voice you picked. That holds people who wake up and then stall. It will not stop someone who silences alarms without regaining consciousness.
Honest fit: pair it with the phone across the room, or run a mission alarm on the days that matter.
Sleep Cycle
Wakes you inside a light-sleep window. Pleasant, and the weakest option here for a true heavy sleeper, since the design assumes a gentle wake is enough.
On Android, QRAlarm does the scan-to-dismiss job well and is free. No iPhone version.
What actually moves the needle
- Phone across the room beats every feature in this list.
- Sleep debt beats every app. Six hours a night is a scheduling problem.
- One alarm you cannot kill beats five soft alarms you sleep through.
- Check it rings on silent and locked before you rely on it.
If nothing works
Waking up impossible every day, after enough sleep, is worth raising with a doctor rather than solving with a louder phone.
